Your cellar, inside your assistant
Connect HomeSomm once and a compatible AI assistant can see what is actually in your wine storage, so asking 'what should we open with lamb tonight' returns bottles you own rather than generic advice.

What MCP is, in plain language
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an app to expose data and actions to an AI assistant. Think of it as a plug that lets an assistant read from a service you already use.
Without it, an assistant has to guess. With it, the assistant reads the real list.
What the assistant can do
The connection is read-first and scoped to your household cellar.
- List your bottles, filtered by type, region, grape, or vintage
- Show which bottles are closest to the end of their drinking window
- Answer pairing questions using only stock you own
- Optionally record that a bottle was opened, if you grant write access
Why it matters
Meal planning increasingly starts in an assistant, not in an app. If the assistant can see the wine shelf, the wine question is answered in the same conversation as the recipe.
Assistant access is a first-class Premium feature rather than an add-on. Viniou also publicly offers an MCP connection, while most established wine apps do not advertise one.
Frequently asked questions
- Which assistants work with the HomeSomm MCP server?
- Any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini through MCP-capable clients.
- Can the assistant change my cellar?
- Only if you grant write access. By default the connection is read-only, so an assistant can look at your bottles but not edit them.
- Is the MCP server included in the subscription?
- The MCP server is a Premium feature, included in the Premium household plan at no extra cost. It is not available on the free plan.
